Youth Group

Follow the link to read about a new group that has started to meet at the Smith home.

One week after Cora was born, we answered a knock on our door to find two of the girls who attend our library activities standing there. They had dropped by to meet Cora. It wasn’t until a few hours later that we found out that their older cousin, who has a soccer game he plays near our house for a local league on Thursday afternoons, had given them a ride over and was going to pick them up after the game...about four hours later. Not quite the stop-by-for-a-few-minutes visit I expected. Irritating. But okay, we handled ourselves well enough, and Shaye played with the younger sister (8 yo), so it was fine.

Fast forward a week, the doorbell rings and, yep, the older sister was back. She stayed for hours again before realizing that her cousin had forgotten to pick her back up and she headed home. Again, I was somewhat put out. With two little kids, having someone hijack your afternoon and dinnertime is not fun. However, this time, we actually planned for her to come back every Thursday to study Mark with Kyle, then cook dinner with me and eat with us.

Thus, no more hijacking.

So she showed up again last week with a friend, another library girl who wanted to meet Cora, and they read with Kyle and made brownies with me while a frozen lasagna cooked.

Today, we made a chocolate pie (I taught), then fried rice (they taught me).

Please be praying for Evelyn, age 14, and Katherine, age 12, and whatever friends they may bring in the future. This is a prime time in their lives to influence some formative years. so we are glad to have such an opportunity.

Especially since we know when they are coming over!
