Chocolatadas

On Saturday we sponsored a chocolatada at two different libraries. One at Porvenir and one at Sr. de Huanca.

Saturday proved to be yet another busy day for the team. Working with the Rotary Club of Arequipa and with our new friend Abraham we helped sponsor two different chocolatadas. A chocolatada is an event where you prepare hot chocolate, fruit cake (a big hit here in Peru), and toys and give them out to kids. At 8 AM Greg and I arrived at the community center in Porvenir, very close to the new library, where Abraham had his people getting ready for the kids. The team provided the toys and paneton (fruit cake) for this chocolatada and the Rotary Club provided everything else. While we had planned for up to 500 kids only 200 showed up but the event was still a success. As is customary to any party a clown was hired to entertain and come up with fun games during which to give out the big prizes. Here are some pictures from the chocolatada at Porvenir:

That afternoon at 4 we hosted about the same number of kids (200) at Sr. de Huanca. While we planned on only 150 kids showing up it was great to see a big crowd. The Rotary Club provided everything for this one and it was also a huge success. This clown not only did a puppet show and games but he also dressed up as Papa Noel. We are so grateful for everything the Rotary Club has done for the libraries. They are always ready to help and they came through in a big way for the kids this weekend. Videos of both chocolatadas are in the works but for now take a look at some of these pictures:
